Prison Ministry

Remember prisoners as if you were in prison with them, and people who are mistreated as if you were in their place. - Hebrews 13:3 (CEB)

Prison Ministry

In many places throughout scripture, there is a clear command for God's people to provide care for those who are in prison. At First UMC McAllen, we are proud of our many members who regularly engage in Prison ministries, sharing the love and grace of Jesus Christ with those many would rather forget. Below you will find more information about our two primary prison ministries.

Kairos Ministry

Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc. (Kairos) is a lay-led, interdenominational Christian ministry in which men and women volunteers bring Christ's love and forgiveness to prisoners and their families.

The Kairos programs take the participants on a journey that demonstrates the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Kairos Prison Ministry is Christian in nature, although no religious affiliation is necessary to be a participant.

The programs involve a structured model that includes the weekend experience, followed by guests or participants gathering regularly for accountability, support, and prayer.

Epiphany Ministries

Epiphany Ministry is a short three-day course in Christianity that brings to incarcerated juveniles the message of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness. It is an ecumenical Christian ministry modeled after similar weekend ministries such as Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, Tres Dias, Chrysalis, and Kairos.

The mission of Epiphany Prison Ministry is to offer incarcerated youth an opportunity to change their lives and value systems by introducing them to Jesus Christ. Epiphany seeks to meet the basic need of the “Stars” to feel loved. Epiphany teaches that their lives are worthwhile because of God’s endless love for them.

The purpose of Epiphany strives to manifest God’s love to these young people known as ‘Stars”. Epiphany is currently ministering at eight facilities throughout the state of Texas. Our goal is to expand the program to minister in all facilities for incarcerated youth within the state.
