This Senior High Youth Mission is hosted at First UMC, McAllen. There are many opportunities to help us host this mission. The youth and their sponsors come to serve families in our surrounding communities. Servant volunteers are needed to help with paperwork, cook, serve meals, deliver snacks, decorating, make cookies, etc!
There will be other opportunities throughout the year to serve!
First UMC S.O.S is another opportunity for us to serve in our community and invite others to join us! To be the church OUTSIDE our walls! This year we have let SOS evolve into a year-long relationship with Escandon Elementary. We help support a clothing and supply closet at this south McAllen School who also hosts the Regional School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (RSD). Other opportunities to partner with this school are to host their RSD Students at Christmas time as they come to "Sign and Sing" Christmas Carols with us. We also support a breakfast for the Teachers during Teacher Appreciation.
Our Church family prepares and serves Thanksgiving Lunch to the staff and families of AVANCE-Headstart each year. This year we will do this on Wednesday, November 13th! If you would like to help serve, come and join us!
Collection: October 27 - November 17

We offer our "first fruits," as we are commanded, to those less fortunate! We collect specific food items, purchase perishables and assemble boxes to be distributed to our neighbors!
All are invited to help with this ministry!
Friday & Saturday, (Spring 2021 TBA)
Periodic weekend builds are done throughout the year
CORNERSTONE MINISTRY is a ministry that has evolved over the past 26 years into one that serves primarily physically disabled individuals and their families with wheelchair ramps and other home assistance.
In the last few years we have partnered with the Texas Ramp (TRP) Project in this ministry. We are excited about our partnership this brings to our ministry, church and surrounding communities. We successfully use their model for building the ramps, tweaking it to meet our criteria. It makes it possible to build a ramp in 4 - 6 hours, depending on the length!

We are Christians committed to serving GOD, in service to others.
Manna Food Pantry - held the 3rd Monday of every month. Servant volunteers are needed to assist in picking up food from the Food Bank of the RGV, organizing on tables in the morning, and serving families in the afternoon.
Emily's Meals - Lunches for the homeless are prepared at First UMC every other Thursday, and the first Saturday of every month. They are then delivered. This ministry is sponsored by the Woven Women's group of our church, however anyone is welcome to serve! Help is needed in the kitchen and then to deliver.
"In His Steps" Shoe Bank of McAllen - This ministry provides shoes to school-aged children in the McAllen ISD, with a pair of properly fitting shoes appropriate for school! If your gift of service is data entry and/or paperwork, here is a perfect way of serving!
CarePortal - Our church partners with the CarePortal of Hidalgo County and child welfare! Child welfare workers uncover needs and CarePortal makes local churches aware, giving them a real-time opportunity to respond. CarePortal supports churches with a heart to help local children and families in crisis. Churches in the network own and sustain this work through time, prayer, and resources. Your help is needed!
Reading to Elementary School Children - If you are interested in making a difference in a child's life in this way, call the Church Office!
Truck Ministry - We are often able to fulfill the needs of others by virtue of what we have been blessed with ourselves. The life and ministry of this church is no different in this respect. There are at times many opportunities where a truck is needed, such as hauling items for the respite center, Food Bank or Care Portal. If you have the blessing of owning a truck and want to assist in these opportunities and more, we are starting a truck ministry that will afford you another chance to bless others.
