  ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES

Mark your calendar and JOIN US!

Manna Food Pantry - held the 3rd Monday of every month.  Servant volunteers are needed to assist in picking up food from the Food Bank of the RGV, organizing on tables in the morning, and serving families in the afternoon.

Food boxes for MISD Escandon Elementary - These boxes are assembled once a month (3rd week of the month) by the Youth and Children's Ministries and then delivered to Escandon Elementary in McAllen for identified families in need.  Assistance in delivering food to Escandon is needed.

Emily's Meals - Lunches for the homeless are prepared at First UMC every other Thursday, and the first Saturday of every month. They are then delivered.  This ministry is sponsored by the Woven Women's group of our church, however anyone is welcome to serve!  Help is needed in the kitchen and then to deliver.

"In His Steps" Shoe Bank of McAllen - This ministry provides shoes to school-aged children in the McAllen ISD, with a pair of properly fitting shoes appropriate for school!  If your gift of service is data entry and/or paperwork, here is a perfect way of serving!

 New Date:  SATURDAY a.m., October 13

First UMC will host a group of volunteers to serve at RAYBURN ELEMENTATRY SCHOOL, 7000 N Main St, McAllen, 8:00 - 12:00 noon!  S.O.S is another opportunity for us to “go out” and serve in our community and invite others to join us! To be the church OUTSIDE our walls! This will be a day to help the McAllen ISD schools get off to a good start in the new school year. Volunteer servants are needed to take part in this half-day service event, helping with multiple projects. 

We need all types of volunteers!  Every little bit of time and energy makes a difference!

"First Fruits" Thanksgiving Baskets

Collection:  October 28 - November 18
Assemble & deliver:  November 18

We offer our "first fruits," as we are commanded, to those less fortunate!  We collect specific food items, purchase perishables and assemble boxes to be distributed to our neighbors! 

All are invited to help with this ministry!

 

Cornerstone/Texas Ramp Project

Tentative Workdays:   Fri & Sat, Feb. 22 & 23  Orientation & Planning:  Tuesday, Feb. 19

During this annual event our church seeks to serve our neighbors needing a wheelchair ramp to make their home accessible!  We partner with Texas Ramp Project.  The building lasts approximately 4 hours each morning.  You can sign up for one or both days.  Anyone is welcome to help!  Call or email Susan Hellums to sign up to help.  (956)686-3784 or    

We will be planning some dates throughout the year to build other ramps!

 

 

INSIDE-OUT Weekend

Tentative dates:   Sat a.m., April 6 - serve OUT                   & Sunday a.m., April 7 - WORSHIP

A morning of service out with different community agencies, mission & ministries.  There are many different ways to serve!  We serve together as a witness to God and to His Glory! On Sunday, we will gather at the Church to celebrate and worship our God!

  

 
Saturday - Sunday , June 9 - 15, 2019

This Senior High Youth Mission is hosted at First UMC, McAllen.  There are many opportunities to help us host this mission.  The youth and their sponsors come to serve families in our surrounding communities.  Servant volunteers are needed to help with paperwork, cook, serve meals, deliver snacks, decorating, make cookies, etc!

School supplies and teaching tools are collected per grade level for two identified school in areas of need within McAllen ISD.  The boxes are assembled with items identified as needed.  Everyone's help is needed! 

 

 There will be other opportunities throughout the year to serve!
