The OPEN door Class - Room 209

The Open Door Class is a multigenerational class. Age range from late 30's to 60's. The group uses a study guide augmented with videos. Each study lasts 6-8 weeks. The group discusses and chooses each topic to be studied. We do not have regular social gatherings but support each other with prayer and conversation.

Aldersgate Class - Keystone Room

The Aldersgate Class is the longest existing class at First United Methodist Church, McAllen. Organized in 1952 as a young people’s class, it continues today for older adults. Men and women, who are interested in study of the Bible and Bible related topics, come together and learn how it relates to how we live in this day and time. They use the Adult Study Series with several class members rotating the teaching responsibilities. Several times a year class members gather after Church for lunch or at a member’s home for fun and fellowship. Visitors and new members are always welcome.

Friendship Class - Social Room East

The Friendship Sunday School Class is made up of individuals who share a common desire to broaden their understanding of the scriptures and to incorporate into their lives the teachings of Christ. The class members are eager to welcome all people into the class. The Sunday morning lessons are taught by various members of the class, and occasionally guests are invited from the community or from other areas within the church to teach a lesson. The study curriculum the class uses includes the following: Bible studies, study books and videos written and produced by individuals knowledgeable in theology, Advent and Lenten studies, topics of interest from individuals invited to teach, and special interest presentations by class members. The class has a strong commitment to providing help to others in need and enjoys social times together on various occasions.

Unity Class - Room 210

The Unity Class, consisting of adults of all ages, meets in Social Room West. The lessons are led using the Disciples Bible Study Series. This class is a diverse group of caring, welcoming people. They enjoy being together and meet periodically for fellowship.

Trinity Class - Room 211

The Trinity Class is a unique, diverse, caring and fun group of class members who are committed to growing their faith in order to become better disciples of Jesus Christ. This class consists of members ranging from young couples with newborn children to seasoned members. Our active and outgoing winter Texan members join us in October. Members of the Trinity Class are diverse in all categories. From conservative to liberal, members pride themselves in presenting their viewpoint often resulting in somewhat lively discussions concerning biblical issues in our current times. However, at all times the Trinity Class is a bible study class using the Adult Bible Studies curriculum. The Adult Bible Studies curriculum presents new curriculum quarterly.

Foundations Class - Room 203

The Foundations Class, consisting of adults in their 30s to early 50s, meets in Room #202. They are a diverse group of mostly parents who have children of all ages. The class desires to build strong foundations in the lives of each class member through weekly Bible study combined with the study of today's relevant subjects. They use video and discussion based studies. The role of teacher rotates among the members. They welcome anyone who wants to join.
